Freshly made, low-processed kibble thatâs actually good for your dogThe majority of Aussie dogs eat dry dog food (or kibble) as part or all of their diet, but it turns out that a lot of it isnât doing old mate any good.
Not because dry dog food is bad â thatâs just the way itâs prepared â but because big dog food companies often do things on the cheap, using high GI ingredients, straight in/straight out fillers, and very little actual meat (plus additives so it lasts longer on supermarket shelves). Eaten regularly, this gets your wooferâs body out of whack and can cause short-term upset and long-term illness.
Scratch puts better ingredients in, and you get a healthier dog out. Pretty simple but business gets in the way. So, is dry dog food bad? No â much of it is but Scratch is the dry dog food should be.
Dry dog food for Bulldogs is the most convenient, preserved by dehydration and receives a quick temperature kill-step to ensure all microorganisms are eliminated.
Raw food diets are great as they have no processing, but it can be hard to get a complete and balanced diet from raw food alone. It also has other drawbacks like being fresh only for a few days, potential microorganisms such as e-coli, salmonella etc. Cooked protein is also easier to digest than raw.
Wet dog food is processed at a high temperature for a long period while sealed to ensure that all micro-organisms are killed. It generally tastes great but contains mostly water and a lot of gelling agents to make the gravy. The term âwhat goes in comes outâ applies well to wet food, and can be the culprit for less-than-ideal number 2s.
Freeze-dried grub is generally higher quality than a lot of the dog food out there, but comes with its own drawbacks. Freeze-drying alone isnât an effective way to kill all pathogens, so carries similar risks to raw. Itâs also crazy expensive.
Like dry dog food, chilled dog food has the kill step to eradicate pathogens. It has a short shelf life and is often treated with a lot of preservatives to last the time from factory to home.

Boo is an Australian Bulldog about 9 years old. He has always suffered from allergies at certain times of the year and i continually had to take him to the vet. I heard about Scratch dog food while searching the internet for a food with no chicken or beef as I felt that was the cause of his ears continually becoming sore. Since I have had him on Scratch Kangaroo he has not had a problem. Would recommend this food as the best I have ever purchased.
We have Blixa (Australian Bulldog) and Loki (French Bulldog) and if you are a bulldog owner you KNOW about those constant, thick in the air, room clearing farts from what seems is the sulphurous bowels of hellâŠ.well, theyâre gone! They are still farting up a good old storm, because bulldogs favour audible farting, but THEREâS NO SMELL!! On top of that the Frenchman tends to sh*t in the house at night because of his powerhouse metabolismâŠ.no longer sloppy steaming piles of poop, but tidy, neat, dry and firm, easy to clean up poops that donât smell bad! Praise Scratch! đ But then thereâs the flavour, they are on Kangaroo and LOVE IT.
