Using low-inflammation food without all the processing

Why do so many modern dogs suffer from skin & stomach issues? Cheap, powdered and over-processed ingredients are a common culprit. ‘Pet food meat’ is used in nearly every dog food out there, and is typically the lowest quality option (often with more bone and carcass than meat and organs).

Scratch uses meat from the human food supply chain and tops off each recipe with healthy oils for a resilient gut, shiny coat and tough immune system.

Avoiding the ingredients causing most sensitivities

Bulldogs require delicate diet handling.  It’s common in the breed to experience a host of intolerances and food allergies, and to be – in general – more sensitive than the average pup.

Scratch kicks allergies to the curb with none of the common food triggers…  the most frequent being dairy (17%), chicken (15%) and wheat (13%).

Family in kitchen

Bulldogs should eat premium grub, human-grade meat and a recipe that caters to their special dietary needs

Your dog’s food should be doing more than keeping them alive. It should be sustaining them with top-quality ingredients, cutting out filler and enriching their health with wholefoods.

Dry food, wet food, freshly prepared or home-cooked, most of the dog food brands out there miss the mark.

✅ Scratch is formulated by master qualified nutritionists to meet all the nutritional requirements Bulldogs need, as set out in the AAFCO guidelines

✅ Each recipe is chockfull of premium, human-grade meat and real veggies (not powdered crap)

✅ Sustain your Bulldog all day with low-GI energy sources… rather than burning and crashing

Freshly made, low-processed kibble that’s actually good for your dog

The majority of Aussie dogs eat dry dog food (or kibble) as part or all of their diet, but it turns out that a lot of it isn’t doing old mate any good.

Not because dry dog food is bad – that’s just the way it’s prepared – but because big dog food companies often do things on the cheap, using high GI ingredients, straight in/straight out fillers, and very little actual meat (plus additives so it lasts longer on supermarket shelves). Eaten regularly, this gets your woofer’s body out of whack and can cause short-term upset and long-term illness.

Scratch puts better ingredients in, and you get a healthier dog out. Pretty simple but business gets in the way. So, is dry dog food bad? No – much of it is but Scratch is the dry dog food should be.

Hungry dog

Why kibble vs. raw food, chilled food or freeze-dried food?

Dry dog food for Bulldogs is the most convenient, preserved by dehydration and receives a quick temperature kill-step to ensure all microorganisms are eliminated.

Compare Scratch to:

ingredients-meat illustration

Raw food

Raw food diets are great as they have no processing, but it can be hard to get a complete and balanced diet from raw food alone. It also has other drawbacks like being fresh only for a few days, potential microorganisms such as e-coli, salmonella etc. Cooked protein is also easier to digest than raw.

Wet food

Wet dog food is processed at a high temperature for a long period while sealed to ensure that all micro-organisms are killed. It generally tastes great but contains mostly water and a lot of gelling agents to make the gravy. The term ‘what goes in comes out’ applies well to wet food, and can be the culprit for less-than-ideal number 2s.

Freeze-dried food

Freeze-dried grub is generally higher quality than a lot of the dog food out there, but comes with its own drawbacks. Freeze-drying alone isn’t an effective way to kill all pathogens, so carries similar risks to raw. It’s also crazy expensive.

Or chilled food?

Like dry dog food, chilled dog food has the kill step to eradicate pathogens. It has a short shelf life and is often treated with a lot of preservatives to last the time from factory to home.

Her issues have cleared up completely

We rehomed an Aussie Bulldog, Luna. Who came to us with skin infections and irritations, tried a number of different grain free and single protein foods for sensitivity (that turned out to have various animal fats/oils in them) Finally we’ve found a food that she loves, is convenient to store and portion and most importantly her issues have cleared up completely. Thanks Scratch!

The best I’ve ever purchased

Boo is an Australian Bulldog about 9 years old. He has always suffered from allergies at certain times of the year and i continually had to take him to the vet. I heard about Scratch dog food while searching the internet for a food with no chicken or beef as I felt that was the cause of his ears continually becoming sore. Since I have had him on Scratch Kangaroo he has not had a problem. Would recommend this food as the best I have ever purchased.

Praise Scratch! 🙏

We have Blixa (Australian Bulldog) and Loki (French Bulldog) and if you are a bulldog owner you KNOW about those constant, thick in the air, room clearing farts from what seems is the sulphurous bowels of hell….well, they’re gone! They are still farting up a good old storm, because bulldogs favour audible farting, but THERE’S NO SMELL!! On top of that the Frenchman tends to sh*t in the house at night because of his powerhouse metabolism….no longer sloppy steaming piles of poop, but tidy, neat, dry and firm, easy to clean up poops that don’t smell bad! Praise Scratch! 🙏 But then there’s the flavour, they are on Kangaroo and LOVE IT.
