Our nutritionist-formulated & science-backed recipe is:
The healthiest thing for your dog is usually the most time-guzzling thing for us (and let’s be real: pretty gross). Not anymore. By blast freezing, we’ve made raw feeding as easy as kibble.
No prep, no mess, no worries. You don’t even need to defrost. Just grab from your freezer and dish straight up.
You don’t need to handle meat or worry about sneaky bacteria that’d get the chance to grow in the fridge.
We freeze as early as possible to lock in nutrients. So it’s just as fresh going in the bowl as it was being made.
To you and your grub goblin. Humans can’t smell it’s raw meat, but your dog and their expert schnoz sure can.
Tell us about your dog, and we’ll work out exactly how much food they’ll need to hit their ideal weight. If you try it and want to continue, we’ll make sure fresh food is sent just when they need it.
Each order is only 3x 2.75kg bags of raw. Or 6x bags if you have more room. Take our quiz to see how long they’d last your dogs.
We’ll only make more of your dog’s raw right when they’re running low. So it’s as fresh as possible when it’s hitting their bowl.
No guessing or rounding up. We’ll calculate how much to feed your dog down to the gram and give heaps of help with the transition.
We ship to metro Melbourne and Sydney. Every box is delivered frozen, insulated with biodegradable wool liners and ice packs.

Raw from Scratch is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages except for growth of large size dogs (70 lb. or more as an adult).
Every bag has heaps of human-grade meat (70.5% to be exact). Because we’re using boneless beef, beef organs and salmon in their original form, we can add more than double the amount as traditional kibbles without overdoing it on the calcium.
Raw is the most natural way to feed your dog which brings a whole lot of benefits. We take it one step further by optimising our recipe for peak pup health. It’s perfect for dogs with chonk in the trunk, the hypersensitive and the just plain hyper.
A high-protein diet with healthy fats is great for powering happy pups. Fresh whole protein means your dog will digest more of their food for a long lasting, even release of energy. With none of the spikes and lows you get from carby processed foods.
More meat and oily fish means your pup will be loaded up with omegas and amino acids. Both in their part are responsible for the function of enzymes and hormones, growing glorious coats and caring for nails, skin, muscles and other tissues.
So your dog gets the most out of their food. Keeping each ingredient as raw, fresh and natural as possible ensures the maximum nutrients are absorbed into those fuzzy bellies. Meaning better digestion and less waste (a.k.a. smelly poops for you to clean up).
Dogs on a raw diet have a more abundant and diverse population of intestinal microbiota. Better for gut barrier health and keeping those bad gut bugs at bay. We also boost your buddy’s belly with plenty of pre and probiotics, fibre and B-Vitamins.
Because we don’t cook our ingredients (except for blanching our veg), Raw has a higher water content. This keeps your dog nice and quenched. Super important to keep your pup’s kidneys happy and healthy.
Carby fillers lead to sugar spikes, increased fat storage and hungry, hungry hippos (dogs). That’s why we only include minimal, essential carbs. So we can focus on using better energy sources for longer lasting satiation and contented canines.
Natural anti-inflammatories for the win! We’ve packed this recipe with antioxidants, B-Vitamins, and omegas. Fewer carbs, fresher produce and less processing along with loads of polyphenols means less inflammation in the gut too.
The ingredients we’ve chosen are picked to promote neurological & noggin health. They’re high in L-Carnitine, Omega 3 and Vitamin-E and -B. All critical for brain function or preventing cognitive decline to keep those old dogs nailing new tricks.
Our recipe is good for your buddy’s ticker because we’ve loaded up on all the heart-friendly meats. Like beef muscle and organs, which are naturally high in taurine and thiamine. And salmon that’s rich in juicy Omega-3s.
She never used to recommend raw feeding in the clinic. With so many recipes still needing supplementation and most using ‘pet-grade’ meat and production, she was never comfortable with the health risk to dogs or humans.

It sure is. Raw is made and served almost entirely raw (apart from some veg that’s blanched for easier digestion) to make it more biologically appropriate for dogs. This means we can keep all the natural nutrients and maximise their absorption into the body. While lightly cooked is more processed and often includes synthetics supplements.
Raw is much quicker and less messy to serve than lightly cooked pouches that require long dethawing or microwaving too. Our ingredients are real pieces, diced into ready-to-eat cubes, so you have no prep, mess or defrosting. Just open, scoop, serve and repeat.
Raw from Scratch is similar to BARF and PREY feeding models, but differs in the ratios we use. We’ve opted to avoid raw bone (you can always add that into your dog’s diet yourself if you like them and trust your dog with bones). And upped the amount of fibre-rich vegetables. We’ve also included more nutritious organs and less muscle meat (as well as a few other things) to ensure a nutritionally complete and balanced diet according to AAFCO. Without the need to supplement with anything synthetic or worry about imbalances that can come with some other raw diets.
Yep, youngins will love this stuff. In fact, there are several emerging studies that suggest being fed raw as a pup can result in a lower incidence of diarrhoea, skin allergies and atopy when they’re adults.
That said, we don’t recommend it if you’ve got a puppy with a compromised immune system or a large breed (woofers who are expected to weigh over 30 kilograms as an adult). Large breed puppies have very specific requirements to allow them to grow healthily and to reduce the risk of developmental orthopaedic diseases. And this recipe has higher calcium content than recommended for large breeds whilst in heavy growth phases. Once they’ve stopped growing in height, they can get started with Raw from Scratch. If we think your dog might not be suitable, we’ll prevent you from purchasing at checkout to ensure that no owner purchases without checking with their vet first.
You bet! Our recipe is ideal for old gals (and boys) for a few reasons. It’s super high in protein, excellent for preventing muscle atrophy that often occurs with age. Has heaps of healthy fats with Omega 3s and 6s to support reduced inflammation, especially in creaky joints. And it’s packed with fresh fruit and veg like blueberries with antioxidants that help reduce free-radicals too.
If your salt and pepper pup has a compromised immune system though, please steer clear. Unsure? Just jump on live chat and we’ll check with our vet, Dr. Sam.
We’ve purposefully designed our recipe with the most sensitive souls in mind. Avoiding all the common allergens. Instead picking the highest-quality proteins and fresh produce with loads of antioxidants to keep it super gentle on the gut. Plus, with minimal processing and production controlled in our own dedicated facility, the opportunity for cross-contamination with other allergens is removed too.
It might sound scary to try raw meat for the first time if you’ve got a sensitive dog, but this is as natural as it gets for them. And avoids many things about highly-processed bulk foods that might seem normal but can irritate some dogs. Your first order includes a gentle 2 week transition guide to make sure they respond well.
If your dog has a beef or salmon sensitivity, we’re sorry guys. This one is not for you!
Nope! That’s the best bit about Raw from Scratch. Raw feeding can be tricky to get right, so we wanted to make sure it was all done and dusted for you. Our in-house vet and canine nutritionists have devised the perfect recipe. It’s complete and balanced based on AAFCO recommendations. Which means even though each scoop may look different, each bag has all the nutrients and minerals your dog needs to live their best possum-chasing life.
Absolutely. Raw is a complete and balanced diet on its lonesome, but you’re welcome to mix it up. If you are planning to mix feed, we do recommend dishing up Raw separately and when you can, supervise. So if your pup hasn’t gobbled it up in an hour, you can chuck it out to be safe.
There’s no need to defrost. Dogs usually go wild for Raw (it’s chock full of meat after all). Most love the icier texture. Plus a bit of extra crunch can be beneficial to their dental health (and help those hoover-dogs slow down). But if your dog prefers, you can wait 10 minutes to slightly thaw before serving.
Done our way, yes. Raw from Scratch is formulated by our in-house vet and independent canine nutritionists in accordance with AAFCO recommendations to avoid common imbalances you can find in other raw diets. As for raw meat, your dog is biologically primed to eat and absorb nutrients from that kind of diet. Unlike us humans, pups have a shorter gastrointestinal tract with higher levels of acidity to neutralise bad bacteria. That said, we’ve still taken lots of measures to make sure it’s extra safe for you both.
It’s made from human-grade ingredients in a facility that reaches human-level food safety and cleaning standards (wayyy stricter than pet-food grade!). We’ve also opted for a frozen product to minimise any sneaky bacteria growing at any stage of the process. We are crazy careful with our handling of any raw meat and have strict procedures in place to keep it to temperature from the moment it arrives at our facility until it’s in your freezer. We also rigorously test for things like E.coli, Salmonella and Listeria. And we’ve even removed the need for human handling entirely with our scoopable cubes.
Like any raw meat that you’d cook for yourself, you do need to handle it correctly. But as long as you stick to our recommendations, everything should be sweet!
Yep. It’s super important to keep your bags frozen. So pop your bags in the freezer as soon as your box arrives (and when you’re done with feeding). It’ll lock in all of the nutrients of our fresh meat and veg. And ensure any small amounts of bacteria won’t have the chance to grow. Yeah, in some cases bacteria can be present (like anywhere). A healthy dog’s guts can handle raw meat and everything that comes with it, but let’s not take any chances.
We really recommend against it. We’ve worked very hard to protect you and your pets from contamination. By using human-grade ingredients and production facilities, blast freezing as soon as possible and all that rigorous testing. By thawing and refreezing, you might give bacteria a chance to cause mischief in your pup’s guts. Try to keep your food frozen, right up until you’re dishing it out. And if after an hour your good boy (or girl) hasn’t eaten it all up, remove the rest and clean the bowl in soapy water.
Raw is made with zero preservatives or synthetic nutrients. Even though it’s shipped and stored frozen (so unlikely to go “off”), some of those natural vitamins and minerals will degrade over time. So make sure your four-legged friend consumes their food within 6 months to get the most out of it.
We make it ourselves. Right here in Melbourne. Dealing with raw meat, it was important to us to have total control over the produce and processes from whoa to go. Raw HQ is our very own facility. It’s truly beautiful with all human-grade ingredients and production. Nothing pet-grade here. It meets human quality inspection standards with rigorous cleaning and handling practices to keep you and your dog extra safe.
We’re so glad you asked. Even though they look like a work of art, it’s not why we did it. We chose bite-size cubes to make them exactly that. Bite sized. And appropriate for dogs of all shapes and ages. We opted for sliced and diced over mince or patties for a few reasons. Studies show minced food is more susceptible to bacterial contamination. Nooo thanks. It also requires more processing. And tends to be hoovered up quickly too. Which means less chewing (important for teeth and gum quality) and a greater likelihood of excessive food intake and weight gain. You’re welcome chunky pups.
We’ll only send 3x 2.75kg bags at a time (each 24cm x 40cm x 12cm in case you’re after exact measurements). You’ll need to clear out some old sausages and sourdough but it’s waaay less than if you were to DIY with hunks of meat and offal. And a damn sight prettier too!
That completely depends on your dog! Every pup gets their very own personalised feeding plan based on their current weight, body shape, age and overall health. Take our quiz to find out the ideal amount to keep them in tip top shape.
A heads up if you’re used to kibble: you’ll need to dish up much more raw than you’re used to as it has all its natural moisture (unlike kibble that is dry and super nutrient-dense). Less will come out the other end though!
Our mates are used to the same meal, day in and day out. A sudden change can stress out their digestive system and get you diving for the poo bag. So we recommend switching over 14 days (holding off tasty treats or sneaky table scraps during the process) for the smoothest switch. The welcome guide in your first order will guide you through a gentle transition and what to expect.
Unlikely. This is the dinner dogs dream about. But on the off chance yours is one of the very few (or a secret vegan), we offer a 100% money-back guarantee on your first order. If you sign up, transition over and they’re still not into it, just let us know within 60 days of ordering and we’ll refund the full cost of your first box for you (limited to one 8.25kg box only).
We only ship in multiples of three, sorry! Because we’re delivering frozen (which ain’t cheap), we’ve made the decision to have a minimum order to minimise our impact and make sure it’s sustainable for everyone. If you’re after a sample to check your picky pup will like it – don’t stress. We’re so sure your dog will go nuts for it, we’ve got a money-back guarantee on your first order.
Raw is delivered frozen, in refrigerated vehicles, with biodegradable wool liners and ice packs. So it’ll be alright outside for a little while (as long as it’s not a scorcher). We recommend aiming to pop it in the freezer within 1-2 hours of delivery. Sooner if it’s stinking hot. We’ll send you an SMS the night before with a delivery window and always keep you updated on the day so it’s not left out for too long.
Raw from Scratch is currently only available for city dogs in Melbourne and Sydney, with free shipping to metro areas. We’re not available elsewhere (yet). Before you order, take the quiz to double-check Raw is available for your suburb.
