Chicken Free Dog Food - Scratch

Chicken Free Dog Food

Chicken is one of the most common ingredients in dog food – and one of the most likely to cause skin & gut issues in dogs.

We designed Scratch to be the best dog food for allergies. And we started by creating 3 healthy recipes with zero chicken.

Dog eating at table

Up to 15% of dogs are allergic to chicken in their food, and even more are intolerant to it.

But what’s the difference?

Food Allergies

Legitimate food allergies are much less common that people think, and account for just 10% of dog allergies. With an allergy, your dog’s immune system confuses an ingredient (like chicken) as a threat.

Allergies generally cause the most dramatic issues in your dog’s health. Skin issues like rashes, hot spots, fur loss and hives are common. Gut issues usually follow. In severe cases, dogs can experience anaphylactic responses like tremors, swelling in the airways or difficulty breathing.

Food Intolerances

Intolerances are usually less serious than allergies, but they still suck for old mate. They’re also much more common.

Intolerances usually happen when they lack the digestive enzyme to properly digest certain ingredients.

Symptoms are usually in the gut, with diarrhoea, vomiting or constipation. Dogs with a more severe food intolerance can present with itchy skin and rashes, too.

How can I tell if my dog is allergic or intollerant to chicken?🐔

An allergy or intolerance to chicken should be diagnosed with an exclusion diet.

Your vet will generally recommend 6-8 weeks of avoiding the suspicious ingredient. If symptoms desist, then your dog might have an allergy or intolerance to chicken!

Every Scratch recipe is chicken-free dog food. So whether your dog has an allergy or intolerance to chook, they’ll start feeling better right away.

We’re more than just chicken free dog food.

We’re also super healthy, made by people who actually care about your dog’s health. The 3 Scratch dog kibble recipes are full of:

We are total converts to Scratch!

We changed our two dogs Norman and Luna to Scratch a few weeks ago now because they were itchy and scratchy and stinky and farty! I won’t lie, I was sceptical about trying another food as we have been through a few over the last couple of years but I must say we are total converts to Scratch! The incessant scratching has noticeably decreased and OMG! the nightly gassing sessions on the couch have all but ceased.

Thanks Scratch!

Archie is a 5 year old Frenchie who has always suffered with tummy upsets and / or itchy paws. I came across your product on social media and then read some of the reviews and thought it was time to give something new a try. He has been on the new biscuits and his coat is shinier and softer, his paws seem to be less itchy and his poops are the best they have ever been (if you can talk about poop like that)…. Thanks Scratch!

No! The one good thing about food allergies and intolerances is they’re pretty easy to manage, once you’ve identified the culprit. Just avoid any foods that included chook or chicken byproducts in the ingredients, and your dog should improve quickly.
